The Opposite Window
“I woke up early in the morning alarmed by some strange chirping and I felt it’s coming from very close to my window. There was a strange bird on my window panel busy constructing a nest. Dry grass and small sticks were scattered all over the panel. I remained watching the bird making the nest. I never had an opportunity to watch a bird making its nest except in the television. Who teaches it all this? May be the nature. Then why doesn’t it teach us. We have to learn every thing from some one. What is nature…..God or some super power….no it must be combination of mountains, forests, rivers, animals, birds……then what about human beings…….. Strange! Generally I don’t analyze things; I don’t try to find out answers for all these stuff. But today I am thinking in this way…..may be I never got an opportunity and the bird gave me this opportunity. Yes now I got it, it is said that nature is the inspiration for scientists and poets. Then I found some one from opposite window was watching me. She is very beautiful. She is looking towards me. I have never seen her in the locality.....may be a guest or new neighbor. She had large and attractive eyes. Her hair is moving with the gentle breeze. I liked watching her and remained so for some time. Then she went inside and I continued with my daily routine. Next morning again the same chirping woke me up. But this time my eyes searched not for the bird but the girl in the opposite window. I went near the window. But I don’t know why this time the bird is frightened and flew away. Then I saw an egg in the nest. I felt something sweet in my heart. That point of time I also felt proud for providing shelter for the bird. Next morning the same thing happened. when I went near the window to look at the lady the bird flew away. I felt bad, very bad. We humans are exploiting the nature that is the reason birds are coming into the human habitat. At least now we should not disturb their life. From the next day I stopped going near the window. I could see the lady from a distance but not at a distance where she could see me.” After listening to him his best friend told him not to worry and every thing would be okay. He also told him “you have done a right thing by telling me this.” Even the strange bird heard him. She thought in this way – “We in birds don’t have these great feeling like love. At least I shouldn’t be responsible for hurting their feeling. I would leave the window as soon as my son learns flying.” Suddenly it felt some strong hands. By the time she turned to see who it was the best friend hit the bird hard on the ground and it died. He did the same to her son. The next day he found there is no nest no bird. He felt very happy thinking that she left for some other place. Then he went near the window but there is no lady. He never saw her again. Then he understood that the lady observed the bird not him. * * *
